Chanel's Rouge Coco in Culte Calls for Autumn Weather

Have I mentioned that I’m eager for autumn? I think if I say it one more time an angry hoard of torch and pitchfork wielding summer lovers is going to come after me. Nevertheless, the makeup, clothing, and activities are all more suited to my interests (getting to turn the fire place on and read a good book, chief among them) than those one can do while sweaty and dehydrated during the summer months. When I saw swatches of Chanel Rouge Coco in Culte on CafĂ© Makeup I was immediately drawn to the rich plum shade for the crisp months ahead and promptly ordered the shade.

Chanel’s Rouge Coco lipsticks are very likely my favorite formulation offered by the brand. Rouge Coco Shines are lovely and light, and Rouge Allure Velvets bring the matte class of a 1950s lipstick to life, but there is really something to be said about the high quality no-frills formulation of a Rouge Coco. On top of the more substantial reasons, I think the packaging is my favorite as well.

Culte is a rich plum shade that could almost be a modern reinterpretation of the mauve/taupe colors popular during the nineties. The lipstick is essentially everything I look for in a plum and isn’t so deep that it cannot be worn on a daily basis.

Apart from the beautiful color, this swatch epitomizes my love of the Rouge Coco formula. Smooth and opaque in one swipe the Rouge Coco lipstick is visibly moisturizing without appearing glossy.

I do break color rules where seasons are concerned. Who’s to say that you can’t enjoy the summery pop of color of a coral lip in the middle of the winter? Perhaps due to my reverence for the season, though, I cannot picture myself wearing Chanel’s Culte at any other time of year. This is the kind of lipstick that’s best paired with a gray cashmere sweater and a cup of tea.

I have nothing bad to say about this lipstick, with the exception of the fact that it’s limited edition. Why must all the true winners in the makeup world leave us so quickly? I don’t believe in purchasing back-ups, but this would certainly be a lipstick I would purchase again and again.

Do you have any cosmetics that cause you to long for a certain season?
