Madly In Love: Chantecaille Brilliant Gloss

I should point out that Jane of Daly Beauty seems to have the powder to cause me to make impulsive purchases. She’s just started making YouTube videos that I highly recommend you watch, unless you fear for the safety of your pocketbook. Having yet to try any products by Chantecaille, Jane’s recommendation of the brand’s Brilliant Gloss in the shade Love was music to my ears. Though I certainly haven’t managed to stick to my self-imposed five gloss purchasing limit of 2012, I’ve learned quite a bit about what I like in a gloss. I tend to find gloss to be a nice way to approach an unfamiliar brand: as a general rule of thumb (and gross generalization) if a brand has a nice gloss formulation many of their other products will also be carefully thought out. I no longer have patience for sticky, poorly made gloss so the recommendation was particularly welcome.

As a purple lover I can’t resist commenting on the chic external packaging: the brand grabs your attention with a deep shade of royal purple but keeps the tube itself subtle and ladylike. I gravitate more and more to understated chic packaging despite formerly being the girl that would buy if the compact was cute, as products should speak for themselves. Chantecaille’s Brilliant Gloss does just that.

I’m sure it’s not hard to guess that Chantecaille has produced an absolutely lovely gloss. From what I understand about this particular shade quite a stir occurred this past year when Angelina Jolie—already known for her stunning lips—pulled Chantecaille’s Love out of her bag at an awards show. Though I had no problem finding this online, I’ve heard that it can still be difficult to find. Who doesn’t want Angelina lips?

Love is a magnificent milky pink with finely milled shimmer. I believe this gloss is said to have plumping qualities, but I would argue that these qualities come in the form of appearance only as shades like this tend to give the illusion of fuller lips.

I have quite bright red lips and Love mutes the natural shade a bit. It’s a wonderful everyday shade that’s immensely comfortable to wear for long periods of time. The Brilliant Gloss formula is not sticky whatsoever allows the lips to breathe rather than feeling cloying. The light may have been just a bit too direct here, but I believe the perfection of this gloss is still evident.

My introduction to Chantecaille has been magnificent. I’m eager to try more of their products—tinted moisturizer, eye shadow—and certainly have the intention of buying more glosses. Though this product is just over thirty dollars I find that gloss is a good item to invest in … particularly neutral or well loved colors. Gloss can be worn on its own or with other products and has become a makeup bag staple for many of us. Spending a bit of money tends to ensure a non-sticky, comfortable formula.

Have you tried any of Chantecaille’s glosses? Do you have a favorite?
