New In: Skin Care Edition

I’m not quite sure what’s come over me, but from the beginning of this year my focus has gradually shifted. While I will always adore cosmetics and makeup (once firmly rooted in the heart I’m certain these things can never be removed) I’ve become absolutely fascinated with skin care. In an updated routine post (here) I mentioned my previous reticence to test new products. Years of suffering from extremely sensitive skin and eczema prevented me from being too curious, but many positive experiences over the past year with high end skin care brands have rekindled my enthusiasm.

For the first time my wish list has been entirely overtaken with skin care products. The three measly cosmetics that I’d like to purchase are surrounded by a list of masques, moisturizers and serums that would rival the stock of a department store.

Thanks to the particularly warm, humid and non-skin friendly weather this past month I’ve indulged some of my wants now, while others (serums and heavy moisturizing creams) will be purchased when the cold weather necessitates their use.

Unfortunately the main downside to writing about skin care is time. While I am able to provide a relatively quick assessment of my opinions where cosmetics are concerned, skin care reviews take time. You may see more haul style posts along these lines as I purchase items and subsequently write about them weeks later.

As of right now the only items that I’ve truly embraced and started using are Pai's Echium Biorejuvinate Eye Cream and Aesop’s Rosehip Seed Lip Cream. Both products feel as luxurious when applied as their packaging would lead you to believe. After applying Pai’s cream for the first time one evening, I quite literally exclaimed to my husband “so this is what nice eye cream feels like.” Though Pai is based in the UK, they shipped their product to me via FedEx next day! I couldn’t believe the customer service and I’m even more thrilled with the product itself. You can be sure I’ll be investigating the line’s other offerings for dry, dehydrated skin.

And truth be told, have you ever known me to dislike a lip balm or cream? Aesop’s smells divine—somewhat like a spa—and leaves my lips feeling full and soft. How can you go wrong?

You may be looking at this pile and thinking that I can’t possibly have more on my wish list. And yet, four serums, two skin oils a moisturizer and a lip balm later you would know that my new love of skin care knows no bounds.

Have you tried any of the products I’ve recently purchased? Do you have any dry or dehydrated skin favorites that you think I’d enjoy?
