A Beauty Lover's Harvest Celebration

Autumn is a season of paradox. Plants are dying in preparation for the long winter, yet the most bountiful harvest of the year takes place. Trees transition from shades of fertile green to a dying spectrum of reds, yellows, flaming oranges and burnt siennas. Celebrations based in fertility and the approach of the summer months (May Day for instance, with roots in pagan tradition) give way to those based in an acknowledgement of the harvest, and founded upon reverence for the dead.

For those who love cosmetics autumn represents a pivotal season for other reasons. Autumn/Winter collections provide us with a harvest of our own with colors based in nature's wildest dreams ripe for the picking. Cooler temperatures mean that different kinds of makeup can be worn, that we can use that moisturizing face mask that's been hidden in the back of the drawer, that we can experiment with that berry lip.

I've decided to host my own celebration of the autumn harvest on Getting Cheeky fit for any beauty lover!

Despite the popularity of deep shades and jewel tones this season, why not draw inspiration from fall's most beloved gift—the pumpkin. Though I personally avoid wearing pumpkin spice shades in too many variations at once to keep from looking like I'm wearing a Halloween costume, I have a few favorites I turn to time and time again from early September to late November.

Candles are an undeniable benefit to the change in seasons. From the moment I get home I'm burning a spicy, fragrant candle be it one of Bath & Body Works many popular creations or Dyptique's Feu de Bois. Nothing accompanies a candle like a cold, windy autumn day and this season it's not difficult to find cosmetics inspired by just this sort of weather.

And who could forget the focal point of the season? A holiday so far removed from it's original meaning that we can barely recognize itthe much beloved Halloween. I tend to opt for simple and low maintenance costumes, but that doesn't mean that I can't celebrate Halloween just a little bit each day throughout October. Whether I'm taking a bath with one of Lush's magnificent Halloween products, wearing just a bit more orange blush or sipping a Pumpkin Spice Latté, each activity is uniquely spooktacular spectacular.

Whatever the cause may be, autumn seems to be the favorite season of almost everyone I know. The colors, changes in weather and lighting conditions leave us feeling overjoyed as though something special pervades the air. For me, at least, I'm certain that my love of the season has as much to do with the changes in the air as it does with the new releases lining my favorite cosmetic counters!

What is your favorite part of autumn? Do you have a cosmetic product that you turn to more often during the fall months?
