The Lipstick Bandits Get Vampy

I'm more than certain that I'm not the first Lipstick Bandit to use one of our posts as an excuse to purchase a lipstick I've been lemming. Moreover, I'm positive I won't be the last! Don't be fooled ladies, though we may have more than enough lipstick in any given shade for our thematic posts to be plundered in our own collections, we can always an excuse to purchase another.

When the Lipstick Bandits determined that "vampy lips" would be our November theme I immediately knew which lipstick I wanted to feature. Arguably Tom Ford's most popular lipstick, I jumped at the opportunity to purchase the illustrious Black Orchid.

Though I have quite a few lipsticks that answer to the description of "vampy," there is something about Black Orchid that sets it apart from the rest. Though the shade appears to be a deep unapologetic purple in the tube, Black Orchid applies like a rich currant tinged cranberry.

Unlike Tom Ford's Wild Ginger, a lipstick so wildly pigmented that only one swipe leaves the lips painted powerfully red, Black Orchid is a very buildable shade meaning the product can be worn as a gentle wash of color (below) or built up for a more traditional vampy look.

When I conceptualized the vampy look I wanted to create for our Lipstick Bandit collaboration, I envisioned subtle smouldering eyes, luminous if not glowy skin and deep lips. Whenever I wear a vampy lip out on the town I like to make sure that the lipstick is the star of the look; however, I disagree that deep lips should always be paired with soft makeup. Nothing looks better with deep berry and wine shades than a smoky eye, but that's not to say that it has to be over the top.

I applied my foundation as I always do, and blended shadows from Le Métier de Beauté's Nouvelle Vague Kaleidoscope to create a subtle smoky eye look. I will certainly be recreating this look for upcoming holiday functions!
