My Lips, Eczema, Dryness and An Appeal for Help

I've spent my entire life battling eczema. My entire life. Ironically enough I feel grateful: neither side of my family is acne prone which seems a bit more challenging, but both suffer from psoriasis and eczema. There have been periods of my life (particularly during my childhood when this skin condition tends to be worse) that my eczema was an absolute nightmare. I won't disturb you with the details, but it was not pretty and more importantly the flare ups were quite painful.

At this stage in my life after two plus decades of practice my eczema is largely under control. I have various potions and creams from the pharmacist, French skin care secrets I turn to when times are bad and the drive to constantly moisturize my skin with non scented lotions such as Cetaphil. Unfortunately one area continues to be a problem: my Cupid's Bow.

You may have noticed a lack of face of the day photographs and or lip swatches. This has nothing to do with self-consciousness (hell, I've been walking around with eczema for years I have nothing to hide!), but the fact that I quite literally have not worn a lip product apart from balm in weeks! My upper lip gets so red that the pigmentation of my lips practically appears to be extended into my Cupid's Bow: again, not particularly pretty but definitely uncomfortable. No balm, prescription cream or concoction can kick this pesky painful spot!

So I put it to you Getting Cheeky readers, fellow eczema sufferers and closeted skin care experts, what are your suggestions? Do you suffer from a similar problem? How do you keep your worst flare ups under control?
