Seven Things Sunday

Somehow the bright colors of early autumn have faded into the glowing holiday season and another month has passed! The sun has slipped down in the sky quite early and the stunning pallor or an early winter evening has set in. With my lovely Diptyque Oliban candle burning beside me I embark upon writing yet another "Seven Things on Sunday," born on a similar lazy day when I craved an easy (not quite so labor intensive) way to share a current list of things I'm loving, liking or (very rarely) disliking.

One. The perfect makeup bag. I'm not quite sure why, but I'm absurdly specific about the shape and size of my makeup bag. I've been on the hunt for some months now and thanks to My Lucite Dreams I finally found the makeup bag of my dreams: a zodiac inspired bag in my sign (Virgo) from Anthropologie. This sack ticks all the boxes on my checklist: compact but expandable, not too big and not too small and beautifully designed.

Two. Dry skin season. Though dry skin season is definitely something I dislike about winter, my exploration of new skin care to prevent dryness is a certain favorite. From new body butters and lotions to oils and facial masques I feel like I'm ready for anything this winter might bring. There is already very little moisture in the air, but a specific combination of products has been my skin's savior. More to come on that in another post!

Three. Mulled wine on cold nights. I'm madly in love with the warming, festive flavor of mulled wine at this time of year. I thought I'd share my lazy recipe so you can enjoy this time honored holiday favorite at home!

In a sauce pan or crock pot combine:
1 bottle red wine (I prefer Merlot, but any similar red wine will do)
1 peeled & sliced orange (peel can be added as zest to taste)
1/4 cup Brandy
8-10 whole cloves
1/3 cup honey
3 cinnamon sticks
2 tsp ground ginger

Let simmer and enjoy!

Four. The lip balm obsession continues. I'm attempting to force myself to finally use up expensive lip balms such as By Terry's Baume de Rose particularly given the fact that there seems to be an ever increasing list of pricey, exclusive balms I'd like to try! I'm sure Blistex works just as well, but there's just something special about the feel of a high end balm that I adore.

Five. Tree trimming and the holiday season! My husband and I put up our tree a bit earlier than usual this year, but it's such a cheerful decoration and the house is so filled with the smell of pine that we couldn't resist. Let the holiday season begin! (Note that we top our tree with a skeptical looking owl that I may or may not have named.)

Six. Early sun sets and burning candles. I almost dare not share this for fear of being chastised, but I LOVE winter. Second only to autumn, it's my favorite season. From the sweaters, to the crisp air to the heavy snow falls and early evenings I adore the cozy feeling of the season. The recent early sunsets coupled with candles burning everywhere have been particularly relaxing.

Seven. A few magnificent blog posts as always ...
My real life BFF Kristina of Kristina Therese writes a very beautiful and very true ode to HBO's hit series Girls
Monika of Rocaille Writes looks absolutely beautiful in NARS New Lover Velvet Gloss Lip Pencil (I'm very tempted)!
