Skin Care Routine: January 2013

I fittingly dubbed 2012 the year of skin care. The love and interest I developed during 2012 has blossomed into a full on obsession in 2013 that I find a bit more worthwhile than cosmetics (not to say that I'm not also obsessed with makeup). Over the course of this past year I've discovered many wonderful products in large part due to the impeccable taste fellow bloggers around the globe and have learned so much about the products available as well as my own skin.

So taking a cue from some of my favorite French bloggers such as La Vie en Blonde and Une Parisienne et Son Chien who post monthly "Routine de Soin" posts (essentially "skin care routine") I'm launching a new series on Getting Cheeky. On the last day of each month I'll snap a picture of the items I've used all month on the shelf that houses them in my vanity. After much experimentation I've learned to change my routine based on the season and the state of my skin which causes the products I use to vary from month to month. I'm excited to share what I'm using and finding effective each month, but also to have the opportunity to keep a visual skin care diary!

January has been a frigid month where I live, making my normally dry skin even more susceptible to the fluctuations in temperature and wind chill. Every product I've used has been aimed at moisture. I've chosen to cleanse with a balm to avoid stripping much needed moisture from my facial skin, and have given my skin infusions in the forms of balms and creams whenever possible. La Roche Posay Cicaplast and Liz Earle's Superbalm have been indispensable tools in my arsenal as a means of staving off dry spots and rescuing eczema ravaged areas while the Dr. Andrew Weil for Origins Mega Mushroom Skin Relief Face Mask has helped reduce redness and soothe inflamed skin.

Moisturize: Embryolisse Lait-Crème Concentré, La Roche Posay Cicaplast, Liz Earle Superbalm
Cleanse: Emma Hardie Amazing Face Natural Lift and Sculpt Moringa Cleansing Balm
Treat: Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair, Dr. Andrew Weil for Origins Mega Mushroom Skin Relief Face Mask
Pai Echium Anti-Ageing Eye Cream, Bobbi Brown Extra Repair Eye Cream
Sarah Happ The Lip Scrub in Blood Orange

I've made a careful attempt to remain dedicated to applying body moisturizer every night after I bathe. Though this sounds trivial, after a long day at work it can be tempting to dry off and skip this step, but my skin noticeably suffers almost instantaneously. LUSH Dream Cream seems heaven sent this month: thin enough that it sinks in quickly, this moisturizer smells of lavender and works long after application.
