A New Pair of Specs and My Everyday Look

As a beauty blogger, I feel that I should share a few shocking things about myself that go against conventions and/or stereotypes. To begin with the makeup that I select and hair styles I favor on a day-to-day basis are not all that elaborate. And, more importantly, though they've never made an appearance in any face of the day shots on Getting Cheeky ... I wear glasses. This past week after years I finally got a new pair of frames, and given my current state of excitement about my new specs I thought I'd share what makeup I really wear on a day to day basis.

I have quite thick, long and unruly hair. I wouldn't trade it for the world, but it often means that I can't be bothered to curl or straighten. Though I should really update, you can read about my hair care routine here. As a means of keeping my hair out of my face, I most often pin it into a voluminous chignon. Chic and functional in one perfectly packaged bun à la française: what could be better?

As for makeup, I'm in the market for a simple look that leaves my skin looking moisturized (read: dewy) and that helps my eyes stand out, even behind my frames. Although enhancing my green eyes from behind classes can be a bit of a challenge, I've always used a formula that combines brightening techniques with others that frame the face. Illuminating my eyes with matte whites and beige liners is a must, as are carefully drawn on winged liner and brows that have been filled in and brushed. I've recently been into this look coupled with a pop of color on the lips, and red seems to be my shade of the moment.

Though it may not be perfect, I like to think that my everyday look is pulled together, easy to maintain and most importantly very me. I'm lucky enough to work in an office environment without a dress code or an expectation that my makeup and nail color ought to look a certain way so I've found the formula that works for me on weekdays and days off and I've stuck to it.
