After a busy Saturday, I always enjoy the opportunity to sit back with a coffee in hand and reflect on my current non-beauty favorites. Every now and then I wish Getting Cheeky had a bit more breadth, until I recall that I should just be more dedicated about regularly writing Seven Things Sunday posts! So here I am only two weeks after the last installment, bringing you yet another list of items I'm loving, liking or (very rarely) disliking.
One. Cute and customizable clothing.
Several weeks ago I was contacted by the innovative online boutique eShakti (no that is not an affiliate link, feel free to click away at your hearts content) and offered a piece of clothing* to customize. I'm far from a fashion blogger, so taking snaps of me wearing the top I was generously offered by the company proved challenging. Nevertheless, I'm very excited about the concept behind the website and just had to share. Without the aid of a tailor, navigating shops can be frustrating for me as I'm often looking for fitted tops and dresses. eShakti sells clothing on the premise of providing real fashion for real people, meaning that all clothing sold on the site can be customized in terms of length, sleeve style, height, size etc. I took my own measurements and requested that the top I'd selected be made longer than standard (I'm 5'9") and fitted to my hourglass shape. What I received was a top that fits as though it was made for me! Fashion blogger or not, I adore this tailored cobalt top for spring.
Two. The Perfumed Court.
I've fallen headlong into a love of perfume and fragrance. Unfortunately without access to higher end stores, or the seemingly endless offering of exclusives available in Europe one is often left wondering what a fragrance really smells like after reading about it online. Enter sites like The Perfumed Court and Lucky Scent that ofter samples in varying sizes of hard to find fragrances. I could easily spend quite a bit of money just ordering samples! It's the ultimate try before you buy service that also enables you to expand your perfume collection without the investment of purchasing full sized bottles.
Three. Spring is in the air.
I admit that when I was composing my list of seven things for this weekend's post, it was sunny and warm which made it easy to feel enthusiastic about spring. Unfortunately it's currently grey and quite chilly outside my windows at the moment. Nevertheless, I know that spring is finally here which means new shades of makeup, flats, and spring clothing! The best part of the season, though, is watching the daffodils and lilies of the valley bloom in my front yard. I promise I'll take pictures.
Four. A book wish list a mile long.
Of late, rather than adding to my cosmetic wish list my list of "to purchase" books has grown exponentially. As a former English major and lover of all things literary, I often put myself on a course of study delving headlong into the work of an author, genre or time period. I'm eager to explore works that are new to me, and find new inspiration for my Inspired By Literature series. A few of the titles include: Brideshead Revisited by Evelyn Waugh, The Leavenworth Case by Anna Katherine Green, The Penguin Book of Victorian Women in Crime and The Penguin Book of Gaslight Crime both compiled by Michael Sims and of course The Perfume Lover by Denise Beaulieu. I'd love to hear what books you plan to read!
Five. Face Stockholm Mood Ring Polish.
I purchased Face Stockholm's polish in Mood Ring on a whim at J Crew as the shade was on sale. The polish is an deep shade reminiscent of blue India Ink that looks absolutely incredible. In one layer the shade is a sea glass blue with green undertones, while two layers makes it completely opaque and navy blue. What's most incredible, though, is that when paired with a base and top coat Mood Ring quite literally lasts a whole week without chipping or wearing. I'm obsessed and on the prowl for different colors!
Six. Recipe exploration.
My husband Max and I love cooking. One of the best parts of a change in season is the switch up in the things you cook. Recipes you would have made during cold nights with early sunsets suddenly don't seem appropriate for evenings with windows open and a sunny glow. We've been exploring new recipes, like this one on A Beautiful Mess that I plan to make this afternoon.
Seven. A few wonderful blog posts, as always...
I absolutely adore the Marimekko Poppy nails that Meg created on her wonderful blog Lips So Facto.
Dovey shares her incredible perspective on Prada's Infusion d'Iris on Cute and Mundane.
Interested in purchasing a NARS Satin Lip Pencil, but can't decide which shade you'd like? Never fear, as Café Makeup gives us a helpful rundown of each and every shade!
