Seven Things Sunday

Another all too short weekend, another Seven Things Sunday post. Today thus far has been incredibly lazy in the most heavenly way possible: I enjoyed my favorite breakfast (lox on pumpernickel) and have been indulging myself with online window shopping ... and perhaps a bit of ordering as well! In the spirit of this truly lazy mood I thought I'd post a Seven Things Sunday post, which gives me the chance to share a list of random things that I've been loving, liking or (very rarely) disliking.

One. La fĂȘte nationale!
Today, July 14th is the fĂȘte nationale in France. Though this does hold some significance for me, I mostly feel a strong sense of nostalgia when I reflect on my first 14 juillet in France as a student. I'd been in Paris for some time before I went to see the feu d'artifice at the Eiffel Tower but as I sat there watching something that can only be described as magical I remember thinking "I'm really here!"  To say that I miss it doesn't even begin to put it into words.

Two. Uncovering my middle school journal (age 13).
This past weekend I discovered a time capsule from my past that I didn't know I still had: a journal I kept in middle school around the age of thirteen. Naturally I sat down and read the whole thing cover to cover, occasionally cringing but mostly crying with laughter. As you can imagine this soft purple suede journal included such gems as detailed descriptions of my crush, a comment about Orlando Bloom that read "OMG I only totally wish!" and some hilarious gems that prove my tastes and personality have changed very little in over ten years.

Three. The Young Victoria.
This film brings me to tears every time I watch it. The perfectly selected wardrobe, the love story (however embellished, as some suggest) and the plot are perfection. What more can I say? Though it alters a bit from my preference for gritty, dark stories from the same time period (did someone say Wuthering Heights?) it's always nice to lighten things up a bit from time to time.

Four. Seche Vite and OPI Nail Envy.
Alright, I know that Seche Vite isn't technically good for you ... but how have I been living without it? The quick drying top coat is a must have for girls who cannot be bothered to wait an eternity for their polish to dry, and it has been noticeably prolonging the wear time of polishes from all brands in my collection. When coupled with my precious Nail Envy base coat my color of choice is sandwiched between a veritable power couple of long lasting lacquer that I'm now convinced I cannot be without.

Five. Davines hair care.
I'm constantly casting about for the perfect hair product. As I've mentioned here before (though I may be writing a post in the near future as I've had quite a few requests) I take a very minimalist approach with my hair. It's thick and wavy, I never color treat or heat style my locks and with the exception of a quarterly hair cut and good shampoo/conditioner/styling products here and there I leave it to its own devices. I have an incredibly sensitive scalp which makes some brands challenging, but I recently discovered Davines and went to town reading and ordering a selection of items this morning (seen below). I cannot wait to share my thoughts with you!

Six. Opportunities to learn new things.
It isn't really a day well spent if I haven't learned something. Life is funny in a sense that you are convinced you are headed down a particular path only to discover that another has formed before your very eyes. An opportunity to do something new is an opportunity to learn something and that isn't ever a chance or challenge that I'll back down from. I've been granted many opportunities both at work, in regard to Getting Cheeky and in my personal life recently that I'm very thankful for and quite excited about!

Seven. A few wonderful blog posts as always ...
One of my favorite bloggers of all time, Victoria of Bois de Jasmin, shares her recipe for Italian Pasta di Mandorle (Almond Paste for the hands).
Vivianna's post on the many uses for raw coconut cream has me convinced that I need to splurge on RMS's beautifully packaged version.
I loved Lisa Eldridge's most recent video featuring excellent tips for heat resistant makeup.

What are your seven things this Sunday?
