What's In My Makeup Bag: Summer Road Trip and Camping

 *This post contains PR samples.
I almost never post "what's in my makeup bag" style posts. I'm not quite sure why this is apart from the obvious explanation: I carry around 100+ lip products in my purse at any given time and very few practical items. (I always need concealer on the go, for instance, and never remember to pop one in my purse!)

This particular event seems to call for this kind of post though, as my husband and I are embarking upon a road trip culminating in a few nights camping at Yellowstone National Park. The road trip portion of this trip means that I don't have to pay attention to pesky liquid requirements imposed by airlines, but what makeup do I really need for a camping trip? We're not exactly going to be eating at fancy restaurants and getting our photographs taken on the red carpet. Given the fact that our activities involve lots of hiking and exploring I can't envision myself in a full face.

So after (quite literally) extensive deliberation this beauty blogger has elected to keep it simple. I can't be without concealer, and mascara is always a handy item to have just in case. I threw in my beloved Osmia Organics Luster* lip gloss tinted with beet alkanet root for some natural color if the situation warrants it. (What better brand to bring along on a camping trip?!) I like to think that I have all the essentials required to look at least somewhat pulled together if necessary, but I don't plan on applying makeup frequently if at all.

Though makeup couldn't be farther from my mind during this trip, you can bet I'll be loading up on skin care for any eventuality. In addition to the essential items you see below I'll also be lugging along a large bottle of lotion, bug spray and SPF, SPF, SPF! Time in a tent isn't exactly ideal for a "pampering" session; however, I want to make sure that my skin doesn't react adversely to the lashing it will be getting for the next week.

What items would find their way into your makeup bag if you were headed out on a road/camping trip?  Have you ever forgotten an essential that you didn't realize you needed until you didn't have it with you?
